The ancient philosophers would not suppress nihilism (lawlessness);
it would not disseminate—or spread—it; it would not exterminate—or get
rid of—it; it would not transcribe—or rewrite—it. It would foreshadow
it because the philosophers were skeptical about society before the nihilists
