Start with 2: 2 is even so the boxed 2 belongs to the first rule, x/2.  So
2 / 2 = 1.  The boxed 3 goes with the second rule since it is odd: 3² = 9.  Add them to get y: 1 + 9 = 10.  Now cube y: 10³ = 1000.
