Pg 568 (500) - Q23

Since the 2 fractions have the common denominator 4,
 (3x - 1)/4 + (x + 6)/4 = (3x - 1 + x + 6) / 4 = (4x + 5) / 4
Now, separating the numerator to form 2 fractions using the common denominator 4 (doing the reverse of the first step), you can derive the expression 4x/4 + 5/4, or x + 5/4.  The original expression, which can be rendered into x + 5/4, is therefore 5/4, or 1.25 more than x.
