The senses conveyed are first of all simple: they would not be malice, intense emotion, or disillusionment.  The lines do not focus on the boy as much as how the light and shadow interact with the boy, so youthful innocence wouldn’t be correct.  But the shadows that cut across his face and hide it conveys a sense of mystery.  (A)
