Pg 447 - Q34

Passage 1 does not directly state anything about self-awareness, and passage 2 outright says that it does not fit in with the truly simple life..  Thoreau obviously would think that self-awareness is a factor in the simple life because he does write about his lifestyle.  So the best answer would be C, that passage 1 assumes that it is important, and passage 2 says that it is self-defeating (if you are aware of your simplicity, you are not really simple).  C is the correct answer.
