The point passage 2 makes is that one cannot be simple by trying to be simple.  The passage doesn’t say anything about nature, so throw B out.  Wealth and reclusiveness also are not mentioned as a way to the simple life, so throw out D and E.  Since the author does not think simplicity is a “task,” throw out C.  A fits best: you can deliberately set out to be simple.
