Pg 446 - Q27

These lines attempt to uncover Thoreau for who he truly is: he is not simple but indolent (or lazy).  And all he really wants is attention from other people or for other people to admire and respect him.  The author accuses Thoreau of merely posing as the reflective hermit rather than being genuinely simple.  He is too conscious of his self to actually live a simple life (E).
