We already established that Mendel’s choice of traits to used was lucky because they yielded working results.  “Mendel was spared failure because the traits that he chose to follow were each controlled separately.”  Apparently, because he chose traits in peas that acted independently, his results showed distinct and predictable patterns.  Mendel succeeded because luck had him pick traits that reappeared in a distinct and predictable way, which is E.
