Pg 398 (370) - Q13

2/5 and 1/3 are both less than 1/3, so there isn’t enough ribbon in those 2 cases to make a bow.  Now subtract ½ from each of the other fractional lengths to find the amount of ribbon left over from making the bow.  3/5 – ½ =6/10 – 5/10 = 1/10.  ¾ - 1/2 =3/4 – 2/4 = ¼.  2/3 – ½ = 4/6 – 3/6 = 1/6.  1/10 < 1/6 < ¼, so there would be the least amount of ribbon left over from 3/5 yards of ribbon, which is B.
