HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
AT HOME
First you must learn about the components of the test, the techniques you need to develop to beat the test, and the verbal, writing, and math skills required for the test. This is giving you the background to really be able to optimize your score.
1 - Review the SCHEDULE page to determine your time frame for completing the program.
2 - Study the online presentation according to the instructions located on the Main Presentation (check out the contents here: INSTRUCTIONS ) page.
3 - Take the MATH PROTOTYPE questions. These interactive questions have been carefully constructed to give you a quick exposure and understanding of the most typical math questions that show up on the SAT.
4 - JUNIORS preparing for the PSAT should go to the PSAT page to see the format of the test and the techniques for beating the Writing Skills section of the PSAT.
5 - Purchase a copy of The Official SAT Study Guide published by the College Board. You can get it for around 18.95 at any bookstore.....and much less at second hand stores. This text should be available at most major bookstores. Or you can get it from Amazon by clicking on HERE or on the book image.
There are also two older versions of 10 Real SATs. These still have useful questions and we have explanations for them online. Just pass over analogies and quantitative comparison questions. One edition has a red cover and you will find we refer to it that way. The other edition has a white cover. Since you may already have this or want to get one in a second hand bookstore, we have the answers for that book as well. We'll refer to it as the white test book.
6 - Once you have acquired the book of tests, START TAKING THE TESTS, duplicating a real test situation as closely as possible. Set up a quiet place where you won't be disturbed. Time yourself. The answers are in the book itself and the explanations to the tests are at The Study Hall web site. We cannot overemphasize the importance of taking as many of these tests as time permits. That is the way you learn to see the puzzles the test makers create for you in the math section. That is how you learn to pick up all the verbal cues that point you to the right answer. That is the way you learn to handle the tricky adversarial nature of the test.
7 -There is a mystery novella on
the web page which has SAT vocabulary words imbedded in it for easy contextual
learning. We have also provided a list of SAT vocabulary words. The schedule page will help you develop you time commitment
to improving your vocabulary.
